03/10/2008

Here’s what’s up for the week of March 10, 2008:

4. Award News –

I am pleased to announce -

            State of Michigan from MOSPA.
            Congratulations Ashley!

Daird Anderson Award at the Annual Michigan
            Transition Services Association Conference in
            Frankenmuth, Michigan last week.

Congratulations to both employees!

5. Imagination Library Update – Just as an update, we have over 4,400 children in Bay and Arenac Counties who are receiving a “free” book every month. We have raised over 1.3 million dollars in donations. If you are interested in hearing more about the program or if you are interested in making a donation, you can contact Jill Bialek at 667-3223.
6. Interesting Easter Information – Easter this year is March 23, 2008. As you may know, Easter is always the first Sunday after the first full moon after the Spring Equinox (which is March 20). This dating of Easter is based on the lunar calendar that Hebrew people used to identity Passover, which is why it moves around on our Roman calendar. Based on this information, Easter can actually be one day earlier (March 22) but that is pretty rare. This year is the earliest Easter any of us will ever see the rest of our lives! Only the most elderly of our population have ever seen it this early (95 years old or above). None of us have ever, or will ever, see it a day earlier. Here are the facts: The next time Easter will be this early (March 23) will be the year 2228 (220 years from now). The last time it was this early was 1913. The next time it will be a day earlier (March 22) will be in the year 2285 (277 years from now). The last time it was on March 22nd was in the year 1818. No one that is alive today has or will ever see it any earlier than this year!
7. Quote – “Isn’t it amazing how often we can touch someone’s life, and enrich our own, by a very simple act? Kindness; pass it on. What a wonderful way in which to pattern our lives!”
           -Betty, Community Organizer WA
8. Early Childhood Staff – I would like to personally thank our Early Childhood staff for the wonderful program they had this past week at the Dore Riverview Complex (formally known as the Lumber Barons) in Bay City. This was a tremendous event and a great celebration for young children and their families.
9. Birthday Wishes – Happy Birthday to all of you!
