Mike's Monday Memo for the Week of April 28, 2008

04/29/2008

Here’s what’s up for the week of April 28, 2008

1. Board Meeting – Tonight is a special meeting of our Board of Education. Staff is always welcome. We will be discussing our 2007-2008 Strategic Plan. The meeting will be held in the Essexville-Hampton room starting at 4:00 p.m.

2. Classroom Visitation – Just a reminder that if you have a special event you would like me to attend or visit, please give me a call. This is one of the things I like best about my job; seeing first-hand all the great things our staff and students are involved in.

3. Staff Appreciation Week – Staff Appreciation Week is May 5-9, 2008. Administrators will be handing out a token of our appreciation sometime during that week.

4. Correction to the Inside Story – In the April Edition of the Inside Story, we shared information on employees that will be leaving our organization. We printed that Sally Marion will be retiring with 34 years when actually she will be retiring with 36 years. Sally has been with the Career Center longer than any other employee. Sally is a true professional and we wish her all the best in her future endeavors.

5. Studio 23 – Studio 23 has an exhibit for the blind and visually impaired that starts on April 18th through May 4. They asked for some help with Braille. Rosanne Richard, a Teacher Consultant for the Blind and Visually Impaired, Brailled all the captions for their displays and supplied them with materials that blind and visually students would use on a daily basis. Studio 23 also has tours for students which is pretty neat for some of our students.

6. Weekend Building Usage – Call Karen Torrey at x3270 with any questions.

7. School Elections – Just a little reminder that Tuesday, May 6, 2008 is the annual school election date. Please don’t forget to vote. Your vote does make a difference. Remember a quality education is everyone’s responsibility.

8. Special Education Graduation and Prom – Special Education graduation and prom will be held on Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at the Westminster Presbyterian Church on Midland Street in Bay City.

9. Computer Clean Up of Your “H” Drive – In anticipation of our move from Novell to Microsoft Networking, we need all staff to go through their files/data stored on the “H” drive and delete old or duplicate files. Please refer to the “Records Retention and Disposal Schedule for Michigan Public Schools.” If you need a copy of this retention schedule, your office professional should have a copy for you to use. We are asking that you have your “H” drive cleaned up by May 1, 2008. Thank you for your help with this conversion.

10. Award Ceremonies – If you are having an end-of-the-year celebration or award program, I would enjoy the opportunity to attend if my schedule will allow it. I enjoy watching our students’ reactions when they are recognized for their accomplishments.

11. End-of-the-Year – As we approach the end of the regular school year, it’s important to remind our entire staff that the last few weeks of school are just as important as the first. Please stay focused and keep high expectations for both you and your students. Remember, our students deserve your very best each and every day. But most importantly “KEEP SMILING.” We all work for a great organization that cares deeply about the students we serve.

12. Eric Richards & Shane Gourd Memorial Golf Outing – Please view the attachment with the information for this golf outing being held on June 14, 2008.

13. Career Center Students – Once again this year, our students have done an outstanding job at regional and state competitions. Many of them will move on this summer to national competitions. On behalf of the Board of Education, I would like to congratulate our students, their advisors, and teaching staff. Our students’ success is directly related to how hard our staff works with these students. Hats off to everyone involved!

14. Birthday Wishes – Happy Birthday to everyone!
