Mike's Monday Memo

09/07/2005

Here’s what’s up for the week of September 6, 2005:

  • Third Annual Golf Scramble – The 3rd annual golf scramble is being held on Saturday, September 24th at the Maple Leaf Golf Course at 9 am. For registration and more information please call Tina Bacigalupo at ext. 3431. All proceeds benefit BAISD students participating in student organizations.

  • Welcome Back – I hope each of you had a great weekend. Now it’s time to leap into a wonderful new school year. Remember, the work you do is making a difference in the lives of so many students. We will reap the rewards/harvest later by planting the seeds now.  No matter what your role is here, you are all very important to the success of our students. Again, welcome back to your best year ever!

  • New Employees – This year, we have a number of new employees who have joined our organization.  I realize that a number of those employees were introduced at our opening day event, but I felt it might be helpful to see a list as well.  Listed below are all the new staff we’ve hired as of August 2004.

  • Adult Education Class, Enrichment, and GED – If you are aware of someone that is interested in taking an adult education, enrichment, or GED class, please have them call our Adult Education Office at 667-3275.  Also, there are employee discounts of 50% for staff.  Classes begin on Monday, September 12th and schedules are available in the Adult Education or the Career Center office. SVSU Credit – During the past year, Saginaw Valley

  • State University and Bay-Arenac ISD have worked together to prepare quality teachers.  As a result, SVSU has awarded BAISD credits for our staff to utilize and for their personal continuing education.  We currently have 3.25 credits.

We would like to offer staff members the opportunity to use up to one credit per employee to help pay for a course that they may be taking at SVSU.  This is a first-come, first-served basis and the request must be submitted in writing to David Sevener.  After we receive the written requests, a form will be given to the individuals who apply.  The credit awarded must be used within three years.  Deadline to submit your request is Friday, September 23, 2005.

  • Sad News – Larry Vargo, brother-in-law to Katie Vargo, passed away Sunday morning. Larry taught Auto Mechanics and Small Engines at the Career Center from 1983 to 2004 – 21 years. Please see Wednesday’s Bay City Times for more information. Please keep the Vargo family in your thoughts and prayers.

  • Special Announcements – If you have something you would like to share with our entire staff and you wish to include it in this memo, please forward it to Brenda Peppel. We need to “TOOT” our own horn sometimes.

  • Career Center Café Remodel – It is with great pleasure that I inform you that the Career Center Café remodeling project is going well. Our goal is to have the project completed by late September. It is looking good.

  • LLC – Bay/Arenac Remodel – The summer remodeling projects for both of these facilities are either completed or will be within the next few weeks.  The changes look wonderful.

  • Strategic Plan – If you are interested in serving on any of our district strategic planning teams, please contact one of our Directors or me.  We are always looking for help. If you have a little time to spare we can sure use the help.

  • Birthday Wishes – 9/5 Stacy Brew; 9/6 Nancy Kolb, Melissa Mannor, and James Whitson; 9/7 Annette Magiera. Happy Birthday everyone!!!
