Mike's Monday Memo 09/12/2005 Mike’s Monday Memo
Here’s what’s up for the week of September 12, 2005:
- Congratulations - To our staff; we had a great start of the school year! I am always so impressed with the job that you all do. This is a wonderful place to work. Keep up the good work.
- Hurricane Katrina – Darcy Goss’s class from the LLC-Bay Campus is collecting items to donate to the American Red Cross for the people in need from Hurricane Katrina. As the class was reading the Bay City Times regarding the disaster, they thought they needed to help. They are taking donations until Friday, September 16. They will then load up and take a class trip to the American Red Cross in Bay City. For any questions, please contact Darcy Goss or Kelly Hair at ext. 3549.
- Adult Education Class, Enrichment, and GED – If you are aware of someone that is interested in taking an adult education, enrichment, or GED class, please have them call our Adult Education Office at 667-3275. Also, there are employee discounts of 50% for staff. Classes begin on Monday, September 12th and schedules are available in the Adult Education or the Career Center office.
- SVSU Credit – During the past year, Saginaw Valley State University and Bay-Arenac ISD have worked together to prepare quality teachers. As a result, SVSU has awarded BAISD credits for our staff to utilize for their personal continuing education. We currently have 3.25 credits.
We would like to offer staff members the opportunity to use up to one credit per employee to help pay for a course that they may be taking at SVSU. This is a first-come, first-served basis and the request must be submitted in writing to David Sevener. After we receive the written requests, a form will be given to the individuals who apply. The credit awarded must be used within three years. Deadline to submit your request is Friday, September 23, 2005.
- Sad News – Joe Badour’s mother passed away this past Friday. Joe is employed here at the LLC-Bay as an ISS staff. Please keep the Badour family in your thoughts and prayers.
- Retirement Party – Please see the attachment regarding Lois Killingbeck’s retirement party.
- Dollywood Foundation/Imagination Library - This past week, we were informed that the Governor has embraced the Imagination Library as a state program. This is great news for our program. There will be more information to come.
I would like to thank Mary Ellen Bluem and Jill Bialek. These two people are the reason why over 3,500 children receive a book every two weeks.
- Board Meeting - Just a reminder, our next Board meeting is this afternoon at 4:00 pm. Staff is always welcome to attend. The Regular Board meeting is scheduled for Monday, September 19, 2005. They are back-to-back this month because of the Labor Day holiday.
- 43rd Grand Re-opening - Just a reminder that our Grand Re-opening is next Thursday, September 22. This should be a wonderful opportunity to show our community all the great things we do.
- Birthday Wishes – 9/13 Tina Bacigalupo, Carolyn Sayen, and Greg Wurtz; 9/15 Dorea Walker; 9/17 Richard Niedzwiecki. Happy Birthday!!!
Words to live by this week:
If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion.
