Mike's Monday Memo

05/01/2006

Here’s what’s up for the week of May 1, 2006

  1. Summer Hours – As in the past, summer hours for Bay-Arenac ISD will be 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The summer schedule will start on Monday, June 12, 2006, and will end on Friday, August 18, 2006. If your hours are different than the time outlined, you will need to seek approval from your supervisor prior to June 12.  We have also scheduled the All-Staff Opening Day Event for Wednesday,
August 30, 2006. The location and additional information will be mailed to you in July.

  2. Board Meeting – Tonight is the next regular meeting of our Board of Education. Staff is always welcome. The meeting will be held in the Essexville-Hampton room starting at 4:00 p.m.

  3. Classroom Visitation – Just a reminder that if you have a special event you would like me to attend or visit, please give me a call.  This is one of the things I like best about my job; seeing first-hand all the great things our staff and students are involved in.

  4. Staff Appreciation Week – Staff Appreciation Week is May 7 – 13, 2006. Administrators will be handing out a token of our appreciation sometime during that week.

  5. Weekend Building Usage – Our employees have been lax in calling the alarm companies when using the building on a Saturday or a Sunday. The employee using the building on a weekend must call Stanley Alarm at 686-3194, to let them know you are in the building and the times you will be in there. Please also give them your building account number as follows: Educational Service Center - Account #1181, LLC - Bay Campus Account #5433, LLC - Arenac Campus - Account #2785, and Career Center - You need to call Ace Alarm at 777-8390. If you have any questions, call Karen Torrey at x3270.

  6. School Elections – Just a little reminder that Tuesday, May 2, 2006 is the annual school election date. Please don’t forget to vote. Your vote does make a difference. Remember a quality education is everyone’s responsibility.

  7. Bay Area Chamber Business EXPO - If you haven’t heard, the Bay Area Chamber is sponsoring their annual business expo at SVSU on Wednesday, May 3, 2006 at the Ryder Center from 10:00 am to approx. 7:00 pm. If you have time, the show is quite good.

  8. Special Education Prom - Another nice event is our annual Prom.  Our staff and parents have put together a great program. If you have time, the Prom is Thursday, May 4th from 6:00 pm (dinner) to approx. 9:30 pm.   The Prom is held once again at Westminster Presbyterian Church on East Midland Street.

  9. Award Ceremonies – If you are having an end-of-the-year celebration or award program, I would enjoy the opportunity to attend if my schedule will allow it. I enjoy watching our students’ reactions when they are recognized for their accomplishments.

  10. End-of-the-Year - As we approach the end of the regular school year, it’s important to remind our entire staff that the last few months of school are just as important as the first. Please stay focused and keep high expectations for both you and your students. Remember, our students deserve our very best each and every day. But most importantly “KEEP SMILING.”  We all work for a great organization that cares deeply about the students we serve.

  11. Career Center Students – Once again this year, our students have done an outstanding job at regional and state competitions. Many of them will move on this summer to national competitions. On behalf of the Board of Education, I would like to congratulate our students, their advisors, and teaching staff. Our student’s success is directly related to how hard our staff works with these students. Hats off to everyone involved!

  12. “Cinco de Mayo” – Friday, May 5th is Cinco de Mayo!

  13. Birthday Wishes – Happy Birthday to everyone!
5/01 Amy Wood, Robyn Kuehne                              5/03 Bret Bean
5/02 Edward Michalski, Brandean Tilley                        5/04 Karen Evans.

Words to live by this week:

Only those who risk going too far will ever know how far they can go.
