Here’s what’s up for the week of May 8, 2006:

  1. Staff Appreciation Week - This week is staff appreciation week. The Bay-Arenac ISD Board of Education salutes all staff members for their commitment to education and the schools and students we serve.  Your dedication to this organization is truly appreciated.  A small token of the Board’s appreciation will be handed out to all staff this week. Again, thank you for all your efforts and hard work over the past school year.

  2. Mother’s Day – Sunday, May 14th is Mother’s Day. It’s not too late to order flowers or send that special card.

  3. Sad News - I report to you with a heavy heart that Peggy Meagher’s husband passed away last week. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Peggy and her family.

  4. Don Dansereau Scholarship – This is the third year the Don Dansereau family has sponsored a scholarship for students at the Career Center. Students will be presented with this scholarship at the Award’s Assembly on May 9, 2006. To help fund the scholarship for the future, they have created the Don Dansereau Golf Classic which will be held on June 17, 2006, at the Maple Leaf Golf Course. If you would like a registration form, please contact the Career Center.

  5. Baby News – Robyn Kuehne from the Business Office brought a wonderful baby girl into the world on Monday, May 2, 2006 at 7:39 am. Olivia weighed in at 6 pounds, 7 ounces and was 18 inches long. Robyn and Olivia are both doing great! Congratulations to Dave and Renee Urlaub who welcomed their new baby daughter Amelia Renee (little sister to big brothers Austin almost 5 and Aaron at 20 months) on Friday, May 5th at 3:30 pm. Amelia weighed in at 8 pounds, 1 ounce and was 19 inches long. Mom and Amelia are doing great and the guys are very excited too! All the best to the Urlaub family!

  6. Career Center Awards Day – On Tuesday, May 9th our Career Center will have both our am/pm awards celebration.  This is a great opportunity to recognize our students and their successes.

  7. Gerstacker Fellowship Program - It is with great pleasure that I announce to our staff that Linda Englehardt has just been notified that she has been awarded one of the twelve Gerstacker Fellowships from SVSU. Linda will attend tuition-free classes next year at SVSU and end the trip with an all expense paid trip to China with her instructors and fellow classmates.  Congratulations to Linda!

  8. Adult Education News - Adult Education Graduation is scheduled for Tuesday, June 6, 2006, at 7:00 pm at the Career Center. We anticipate approximately 120 graduates earning a High School Diploma, GED Certificate or a Career/Technical Program Certificate i.e., Nursing Assistant, Medical Office Assistant, etc. The Honorable Judge Karen Tighe will be the speaker.

  9. Celebrations/Banquets/Special Programs - This month we have a number of special awards and programs, from Career Center program banquets to Special Education musicals at Handy Middle School. May is a great month to recognize our students and their accomplishments. So take the time and join in, you won’t be disappointed. Dates for many of the events are listed in the Inside Story.

  10. Special Education Completion Ceremony - Just a reminder to staff that the Special Education Annual Completion Celebration will be held Thursday, May 31st at Westminster Church in Bay City. The program begins at 6:30 pm.
