Mike's Monday Memo

05/15/2006

Here’s what’s up for the week of May 15, 2006:

  1. Building Trade’s Open House Visit – Again this year our students and staff invite you to visit the 2005-2006 Building Trade’s Project House on Wednesday, June 5. Staff is invited to attend the celebration. The fun begins at 3:00 p.m. and the house is located at Crossroads East in Bay City (West of Two Mile, off of N. Union). Please join us!

  2. Regular Board Meeting – Our next regular board meeting is tonight, starting at 4:00 p.m.  Staff is always welcome to attend.

  3. Special Education Prom Celebration - Special Education Prom was held last Thursday, May 4th at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Bay City. I would like to extend a special thanks to Darcy, Bob, Jan, Maureen, and all the others that helped to make this evening such a wonderful event. Our students are very fortunate to have such wonderful employees.

  4. Special Thanks to our Buildings and Grounds Staff – A special thanks to our custodial and maintenance staff for their tireless efforts. Their hard work and dedication is not recognized nearly enough. The buildings and grounds look great and it is because of their dedication.

  5. Baby News – Beverly Hauk just welcomed a new granddaughter this weekend. The new addition is Chloe Jean Hauk. She was born on Saturday, May 13th at 8:01 a.m.  Chloe weighed 7 pounds, 1 ounce and was 20 inches long! Samantha (mom) and Chloe are doing well!

  6. Activities Day – Kathy Dardas hosted a “Hands on Activity Fair” this past Saturday, May 13th at the Career Center. A great time was had by all. I would like to commend Kathy for her efforts!

  7. Inside Story - As you are aware, the Bay-Arenac ISD publishes a district newsletter several times throughout the school year.  Next year we again will publish the Inside Story but with a little different twist. We are calling on our staff to tell us a story and here is the theme, “What fun things I did over the summer.”  Remember as a student we were asked that question and we shared our stories with the class.  Now, it is your opportunity to share with all of us what fun things you did.  Did you take classes, read any good books, learn to water ski, and/or spend time with family or friends?  We want to know. I can’t wait to read about all you adventures.  Keep track of your activities because we will be asking you to share.

  8. Summer Tutors - The Literacy Council of Bay County is in need of tutors for the summer to work with elementary students to read twice a week for 45 minutes.  They are also looking for tutors for 5th and 6th graders in Math. If you contact their office at (989) 686-8700, sessions will be scheduled whenever you are available. They have at least 100 children who will need tutors this summer.

  9. Blow your Horn – If you have just received your degree or special certification, please notify me so that we can share it with others. Hey, we all want to share in our staff’s successes. As our staff gains success, so does our organization. Please provide us with the news to celebrate!

  10. Birthday Wishes – Happy birthday everyone!

Words to live by this week:
You can make more friends in a month by being interested in them than in ten years by trying to get them interested in you.
