Here’s what’s up for the week of October 9, 2006
  1. Happy Columbus Day - Just a reminder that there will be no mail today.

  2. Just wanted to say THANKS - I try to send notes and speak to each of you in person.  Many of you I don’t see on a regular basis, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t think you are important to our organization. THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HARD WORK AND CONTINUED EFFORTS IN HELPING MAKE BAISD THE BEST WE CAN BE!

  3. Absentee Ballots - Just a reminder that if you are going to be out of town on Tuesday, November 7th, you can request an absentee ballot.  You will need to contact your village, city, or township office to request the information. This is a very important election.  Remember, every vote counts!

  4. Imagination Library Update - As of Tuesday, October 5, 2006, we have enrolled over 4,150 children.  Thanks again for all the staff that have helped or have made donations. Reading to children does make a difference. We are making a difference in the lives of children.

  5. Early Childhood Education Book Fair – The Career Center’s Early Childhood Education program is hosting a Scholastic Book Fair.  Hours for the sale will be Tuesday, October 10th – Friday, October 13th from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm. The Book Fair will also be open on Tuesday evening, October 10th from 5:00 – 7:00 pm. Prizes will be given out at the evening event. Our community service team will be using the proceeds to donate books to children and families. If you have further questions, please contact Kathy Dardas at ext. 3445.

  6. DO-ALL Material Assistance Referral Sheet – Please view the attachment regarding this matter. Do-All is located in the Essexville-Hampton Mall. They are collecting used material/clothing for families in need.

  7. FREE Breast Cancer Screening – Please view the attachment regarding this very important screening.

  8. Inside Story - Just a reminder that our Communication’s Committee for Strategy 7 has decided to have more “Inside Story” newsletters this year.  We will use the Mike’s Monday Memo to distribute the mini additions throughout the year.  Look for the Inside Story as an attachment in the future.  The Inside Story will also be linked to our website.  Hat’s off to the Communication’s Committee for this great idea.

  9. Upcoming Events: October 9-13 Fire Prevention Week. Change the smoke alarm batteries. October 12 – LLC-Bay Campus “Fall Harvest Luncheon.” Crafts, baked goods, classroom fundraisers, and lunch items will be on sale from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm. Please contact Cindy Janowiak for additional information at ext. 3500.  October 16 – Regular ISD Board Meeting at 4:00 pm at the Educational Service Center. Staff is welcome to attend.  October 16 “Bosses Day.”  October 21 – “Sweetest Day.” Don’t forget that special someone!  October 29 Daylight Savings Time Ends. Push your clocks back!  October 31 Halloween.  November 4 – “Fall into the Holidays with a Bazaar & Harvest Luncheon.” There will be area vendors, a white elephant sale, gourmet food items, and more! This is being held at the BAISD Career Center on Saturday, November 4th from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm. Proceeds from this event will benefit the Career Center’s student club organizations.

  10. Life’s Little Instruction Book – #829 - Let your Children see you do things for your wife/husband that lets them know how much you love and treasure her/him.  #718 - Buy three best-selling children’s books. Read them and then give them to a child.

  11. You, the Night, and a Crab – All-you-can-eat crab dinner and silent auction featuring Career Center students’ photography. This will be held at the BAISD Career Center on Thursday, November 9, 2006 at 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm. Tickets will be available in the Career Center Main Office beginning October 1. Proceeds from this event will benefit the Career Center student club organizations. Ticket prices are as follows: adults - $15.00; children (5-12) - $7.00; children under 5 - FREE.

  12. Career Center Allied Health Wing Update - The Board of Education approved the site location of the new wing.  The wing will be on the north side of the Career Center.  The size of the wing has yet to be determined.  More information to come.

  13. Proud Fathers and Proud Parents Grant Approved - Amy Muempfer (Supervisor of Adult Education) informed our Board of Education that our PFPP grant was just approved.  We will receive approximately $46,000.00. Congratulations to Amy Muempfer and her staff!

  14. Birthday Wishes – 10/9 Marjorie Bullock, David Mullin, and Janelle Rosebush; 10/10 Barbara Twarog; 10/12 Mark Stange, Maurine Trombley;  10/13  Edward Piotrowski; 10/15 Brian Merritt, Michael Rivard. Happy birthday everyone!
