Mike's Monday Memo 11/20/2006
Here’s what’s up for the week of November 20 & November 27, 2006:
- Happy Thanksgiving – On behalf of the Board of Education, I would like to wish each and everyone a safe and happy Thanksgiving. This is truly a time when we can give thanks for the things we have and the freedoms we enjoy.
- Only 37 Shopping Days – Just a reminder, there are only 37 days left until Christmas.
- Speaking of Shopping – If you are interested in a special gift, I would encourage you to look for a gift at our LLC – Bay Campus or LLC – Arenac Campus. Our students have made wooden crafts and candles and have them for sale. Please stop by next time you are in their buildings. I think you will be very impressed with the job our students have done.
- Election is Over – I would like to thank all of our staff who voted. I’m sorry to see that the library millage failed. Personally, I hope that it will be renewed in the near future.
- Special Events – Just a reminder or might I say a request again that if you are having a special activity please give me a call or send me an e-mail. I will make every effort to visit and join the activity.
- Two-Week Memo – Due to the fact that this week is a short work week, I have decided to combine this week and next week’s memo into one.
- Board Meeting – The next Board meeting is December 4th in the Essexville-Hampton Room at the Educational Service Center. Staff is always welcome. Tonight’s Board meeting (11-20-06) has been cancelled.
- Solicitations – The Board of Education discourages all solicitations of and by staff members during regular school hours. If an employee is selling a product such as Avon, Arbonne, Mary Kay, jewelry, etc., they need to rent a room, pay for all their printed material, and pay for other services they may need. All selling for profit should also be run through the Superintendent or their Supervisor prior to scheduling a room, etc. (Please refer to Board Policy #9170.)
- Congratulations to Carolyn Wierda Supt. of Bay City Schools – It is with great pleasure that I announce to you that Carolyn Wierda has been named Superintendent of the Year for the State of Michigan. This is a tremendous honor and much deserved. Way to go Carolyn!
- District Closed – Just a reminder that our ISD will be closed on Thursday and Friday, November 23-24 for the Thanksgiving Holiday. We will be open for business once again on Monday, November 27.
- Birthday Wishes – 11/20 Paul Elliott; 11/21 Katie Vargo; 11/25 Michelle Kapala; 11/28 Colleen Clevenger; 12/2 Leanne Pearce; 12/3 Stacie Hildinger. Best wishes everyone!
Words to live by this week:
Time is a natural resource-like fuel. When it is abundant, we take if for granted; when it becomes scare, we search for that extra gallon, regardless of cost. Wouldn’t you give anything for another gallon of time with some of your friends who are gone? Time is a precious gift – every second, every minute every day- use it wisely. You cannot pay the cost of losing time.
